Experienced actress Akofa Edjeani-Asiedu has revealed that the movie industry in Ghana isn’t as lucrative as people think.
According to Akofa Edjeani, she does not earn much from her acting career, adding that she is currently “broke”.
Speaking on the Starr Drive show on Starr FM, the veteran actress said the movie industry in Ghana doesn’t pay.
“I need money. Honestly I do, I’m broke. But really how much do they pay actors? People don’t know that,” she said.
Mrs. Akofa Edjeani who has acted for over 20 years, explained that she is very selective with movies to act in due to how cash-strapped the industry is.
She added that most actors and actresses who live luxury lives “don’t get it from acting, I can tell you that for a fact”.
She was, however, quick to point out that Kumawood actors and actresses are paid much better.
“So if they [Kumasi based actors] tell you that they are making money from the acting, then yes,” she noted.
Mrs. Ejeani-Asiedu has been one of Ghana’s most consistent movie stars in the last two decades.
The veteran actress recently starred in the new movie “Azali” which was premiered at the Bank of Ghana Auditorium at the University of Ghana campus on October 26.
